Lecturer In the Department of Theology

The Lecturer will serve in the Department of Theology at Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU), contributing to teaching, research, innovation, and the holistic formation of students in theological education. The role integrates academic excellence with spiritual formation, providing pastoral care and mentorship to students while strengthening ministerial training in alignment with the mission and doctrinal values of the Church of the Nazarene.
The successful candidate will play a key role in:
- Equipping future church leaders through teaching, research, and spiritual guidance, fostering an environment where faith, learning, and practice are fully integrated.
- Teaching & Academic Engagement
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Theology.
- Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials, and assessments.
- Engage students effectively in teaching, supervision, and evaluation.
- Contribute to curriculum development, review, and programme enhancement to ensure relevance to contemporary ecclesiastical and societal needs.
- Research & Scholarship Conduct research in the field of Theology.
- Publish scholarly work in reputable academic platforms.
- Organize and lead theological seminars, public lectures, and workshops that promote dialogue between faith, culture, and academia.
- Student Supervision & Mentorship Supervise student research projects, dissertations, and practical ministry training.
- Provide academic and spiritual mentorship to students.
- Support the holistic development of students as future church leaders.
- Spiritual Formation & Pastoral Care Provide spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and chaplaincy services.
- Lead chapel services, prayer meetings, and other spiritual formation activities.
- Model Christian character, leadership, and ethical conduct consistent with clergy expectations.
- Partnerships & Institutional Contribution
- Foster partnerships with local churches, denominations, and faith-based organizations to enhance student placement and programme impact.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, faculty committees, and institutional initiatives.
- Contribute to strengthening the university’s academic and ministerial capacity.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A Master’s degree or PhD in Theology (PhD preferred), ideally with a specialization in Systematic Theology.
- Teaching experience at the tertiary level is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated research experience with evidence of scholarly publications.
- Proven experience in pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, or ecclesiastical leadership.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentorship skills.
- Ability to engage and inspire students in both academic and spiritual formation.
- Ordination within a recognized Christian denomination (preferably the Church of the Nazarene).
- Strong commitment to the mission, values, and doctrinal identity of the Church of the Nazarene.
