The Education Coordinator (EC) for Botswana and Lesotho will provide leadership and oversight for clergy development, ministerial education, and lifelong learning within both countries. The coordinator will work closely with district leadership, District Ministerial Studies Boards, pastors, and other church leaders to identify educational and training needs and develop appropriate responses.

This position requires a person with a strong background in pastoral and theological education, practical local church ministry experience, teaching experience, and a heart for missions. Because the role serves Botswana and Lesotho, the coordinator must be willing to work cross-culturally and adapt to different languages, cultures, ministry environments, and educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate clergy development and ministerial education in Botswana and Lesotho.
  • Work with district leadership to assess the educational and training needs of pastors, ministers, and individuals preparing for ministry.
  • Collaborate closely with the District Ministerial Studies Board to support and promote the education and development of individuals who have received a call to ministry.
  • Encourage, guide, and support ministerial students as they progress through their educational and ministry preparation.
  • Promote Lifelong Learning among current pastors and church leaders to strengthen their effectiveness in pastoral ministry and leadership.
  • Provide or coordinate theological and pastoral education in locations where people are serving, including areas where access to formal education may be limited.
  • Teach, mentor, equip, and develop pastors and emerging church leaders.
  • Build strong working relationships with district superintendents, pastors, local churches, and educational leadership.
  • Identify challenges affecting clergy education and development and work with leadership to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Serve effectively across different cultural and language contexts, demonstrating cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn.
  • Where needed, support local churches pastorally and administer sacraments, including Holy Communion and Baptism , particularly in churches where ordained pastors are not available.
  • Model and promote a commitment to continuous personal, theological, and professional development. Education and Experience

The ideal candidate should:

  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Theology or a closely related theological field .
  • A Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Christian Education, or a related field is strongly preferred .
  • Be an ordained minister.
  • Have practical experience serving in a local church and demonstrate a good understanding of pastoral ministry.
  • Have previous teaching experience, preferably in theological education, ministerial training, Christian education, or clergy development.
  • Understand the challenges associated with clergy development and theological education, particularly in contexts where educational resources and access may be limited.

Personal and Ministry Qualities:

  • The Education Coordinator should be a spiritually mature leader with a clear heart for missions and a passion for developing pastors and emerging ministers. 
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate a servant heart, strong relational and communication skills, cultural sensitivity, adaptability, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively with church and district leadership.
  • The coordinator must also be a lifelong learner, someone who values continued personal growth and remains committed to learning while equipping and educating others.

This position is more than an administrative or academic role. It is a ministry assignment focused on strengthening the Church by developing well-equipped, spiritually mature, and continually growing pastors and leaders. The Education Coordinator will help make ministerial education accessible to those whom God has called and help existing pastors continue developing the knowledge, skills, and spiritual formation necessary for effective ministry.
