Coffee Shop Leader(s)
Is God inviting you to be part of a creative and unconventional way of starting and living as the Church? Come and join an existing team of passionate volunteers from diverse church backgrounds, united in their desire to explore new, creative expressions of church. The goal is to help establish a faith community?a church that, while less traditional in form, clearly reflects the identity, mission, and Wesleyan-Holiness theology of the Church of the Nazarene.
The missionary joining the team will actively connect with both the Nazarene District leadership and the local Nazarene church, ensuring that their work remains rooted in the broader vision and values of the Scandinavia District. Spiritually mature and culturally adaptable, the missionary will be able to communicate their faith in ways that resonate with people who are spiritually curious, fostering meaningful relationships without judgment. With creativity and relational intentionality, they will help shape gatherings and activities that promote open dialogue, build community, and consistently embody the love and presence of Christ.
Café Sweet Surrender, located in Copenhagen?s Vesterbro district, was established in May 2013 by the Greve Church of the Nazarene. Inspired by sister cafés in Poland, it was created as a non-profit, volunteer-run space to embody Christlike hospitality in an urban Danish setting. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds renovated a 150-square-meter space, transforming it into a welcoming environment that fosters community and spiritual connection. The café serves as a hub for outreach and social support, partnering with local organizations to assist vulnerable populations, such as collecting items for ministries like Night Light Café, which supports women involved in prostitution. It also hosts community activities, including birthday celebrations for children from low-income families, and offers programs for women, men, and youth. These initiatives aim to build relationships and gently share the love of Christ through everyday interactions.
Designed to reflect Denmark’s collaborative culture, Sweet Surrender operates with a flat leadership structure, emphasizing shared responsibility and mutual respect. Its mission aligns with the Wesleyan-Holiness theology of the Church of the Nazarene, focusing on incarnational ministry that meets people where they are. By providing a space where faith is lived out through service and community engagement, the café continues to be a place where lives are touched ?one cup of coffee at a time.
