Physical or Occupational Therapist

Is God calling you to minister through physical or occupational therapy in Tonga?

This missionary will serve as a physical or occupational therapist at the Mango Tree Centre for People with Disabilities sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene in order to meet the physical needs of the people and share hope in Christ. 

Background:

The Mango Tree Centre for People with Disabilities (MTC) is a ministry of the Asia-Pacific Region and the Melanesia/South Pacific Fields of the Church of the Nazarene. Our mission is to provide for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of people with disabilities and their families on the island of Tonga.

Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom composed of 170 South Pacific islands. The main island is Tongatapu, but is often referred to simply as “Tonga”.

In remote and developing parts of the world there are few resources for those with physical and intellectual impairments. In addition to the lack of resources, cultural misunderstandings around people with these impairments make these some of the most marginalized people in the world.

MTC and the Church of the Nazarene consider it a privilege to care for the people of Tonga through rehabilitative therapy, vocational education, and special education. We also view this ministry as a valuable avenue to spread the Gospel. 

Responsibilities:

• Assess patient needs and create treatment plans
• Maintain patient care documentation
• Train and supervise Tongan staff

Requirements:

• Professional education and certification in physical or occupational therapy
• A passion and desire to serve Christ through excellent care
• A desire to serve cross-culturally
• The heart of a learner
